They are not related to the Canadian orange shirt day in anyway. For those unaware, September 30 is The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. Also known as Orange Shirt Day. T&R Day is an official holiday to recognize the impact of the residential school on First Nations Peoples in Canada. This system also existed in the US. In both countries these schools perpetrated atrocities that are recognized as cultural genocide. Part and parcel of a larger genocidal colonial project, these schools are a repugnant part of our shared North American history. We salute everyone committed to addressing these wrongs.
